Fur Rondy Model Contest

On Saturday, 23 February our annual model contest got off to a great start at the Anchorage Senior Center. We had 79 pre-contest entries and by the start of the judging Sunday morning, we had a total of 183 models entered. Nice turn for Anchorage and the surrounding communities.

Many great models were entered and the judging was difficult as always. President Paul rolled out a new judging system using two groups with one designated "subject matter expert" to help inform the others if that particular shade of dunkelgelb was appropriate for 1 April 1943.

The judging was completed right before 5PM on Sunday. There was a lot of blue ribbons on the tables and deservedly so due to the high level of craftsmanship represented that day. The three top model honors went to Scott Brune and Tim Kirby.  Overall best model was Scott Bruno's amazingly detailed Model Airways 1/16 Curtiss JN-4D Jenny.  Tim's incredibly detailed Tamiya 1/20 Tyrrell P34 Formula One race car was stunning. He put in over 1,000 hours of construction time on the kit. From the large scale to the braille scale; Scott took third overall best model with his 1/72 SdKfz 9 FAMO and Sd.Anh 116 transport trailer.

Stay tuned for more pictures and write ups on some of the other winners in days to come.

7 February 2013 Meeting

Practice Judging Night

In anticipation of the upcoming contest (14 days!) President for Life Paul did a nice job of leading us through a practice judging night. Broke into two groups judged two sets of models that Paul brought in.  Good practice for the real thing!

On a sadder note, Mark will be leaving us to return to Ohio. We've enjoyed your companionship while you were with us Mark! Stay in touch and keep us posted on what's going on in with your future projects!

Finish those kits up, less than 2 weeks to go!

Mark shares the sad news of his impending departure.

Mark sharing his recently complete Trumpeter 1/32 Bf-109. Sorry, I don't recall the mark, but think it a G'ish range.....

President for Life Paul explains the process for judging his thanks. Thanks Paul for a leading us on this useful exercise

Mark brought in a beautiful Tamiya 1/48 P-47N. Nicely executed  model. Sorry about the battle damage when it fell!

JR, Scott, and Josh nitpick the details.  Nicely done gentlemen!

24 January 2013 Meeting

24 January - Swap Night!
A very well attended meeting due to the ever popular model kit swap night. Many a good deal was struck and plastic galore was exchanged.

A motley crew if there ever was one. But look at all that glorious plastic!
